which last only a few hours before dissipating. The city does lie in the hurricane alley area with a hurricane season from 1 June through November, but has never had a direct hit from a hurricane for the last 30 years.

Cape Coral history:

The city was about by two land speculators, the Rosen brothers, who felt it would be a perfect spot for development. The built over 400 miles of canals and platted the city. They began a large scale sale of the properties. Most buyers were from out of Florida. Cape Coral incorporated in August 1970. In 2003, it was the 2nd largest city in Florida (geographically).
